About Julia Vaara & Lactation TLC

About Julia Vaara, MA, IBCLC

I had the rare mother of my generation who was a lifetime breastfeeding and natural childbirth advocate. Preparing for my twin’s birth, I truly thought, ‘how hard can breastfeeding be?’ Well I found out!

With conflicting nursing advice and no time to watch an instruction video after they were born, the babies were not the only ones with nipple confusion! After a few weeks of tiny jaundiced babies, barely avoiding mastitis and my mom flying in to help, I made it to a lovely breastfeeding relationship that I will treasure forever. I would love for you to be more prepared than I was, and to have a calm, experienced voice to help you over any rough spots.

I am an:

…who supports and celebrates new families!

I provide breastfeeding consultations for new and expectant mothers, including assessing difficulties and demonstrating proper techniques. Breastfeeding can be a long and satisfying journey. I am here for Back to Work planning, challenges with teething and even tips for nursing in public.

I believe that parents successfully reaching their breastfeeding goals benefits the health and development of individuals, families, and workplaces.

Although currently focused on lactation:

  • I have been a Certified Postpartum Doula

  • Trained as a certified Lactation Educator through CAPPA (Childbirth And Postpartum Professionals Association)

  • Have special training and experience in Working with Multiples.

My background includes literature, music and the arts and I can give you the scientific basis for singing and rocking with your baby!

I am delighted to return to my childhood home in the Islands of Washington State. When not working, you will likely find me in the woods or on the beach with my dog Poppy, or baking, Lactation cookies anyone?! 💚 💜

In the 1960s, less than 30% of babies were breastfed. Today we are improving the health of mothers and babies by helping breastfeeding parents reach their goals.
